KLK Appoints Lee Jia Zhang As New CEO, Strengthening Leadership Continuity

KLK, Lee Jia Zhang

Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News), Kuala Lumpur — Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK) has appointed Lee Jia Zhang as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 1 October 2026. Lee previously served as the group’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The appointment forms part of a leadership transition aimed at maintaining continuity in KLK’s strategic direction and operations. The company announced the appointment on 9 September 2026.

Lee joined KLK Group in April 2010 and has since held various leadership positions across its oleochemical and corporate divisions. He served as Managing Director of Palm-Oleo Sdn Bhd from January 2017 to December 2018 before becoming CEO of KLK OLEO in April 2022, a position he held until September 2024.

He subsequently served as KLK’s COO from 1 October 2021 and was appointed an executive director of the company in May 2018.

Experience Across Multiple Business Segments

Lee’s experience spans oil palm plantations, oleochemicals, vegetable oil refining, property development and corporate operations. This cross-sector background provides a foundation for leading a group with integrated upstream and downstream activities.

Lee holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College London and a professional accountancy qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

He is also active in industry organisations related to Malaysia’s palm oil and oleochemical sectors. He serves as Chairman of the ASEAN Oleochemical Manufacturers Group (AOMG), as well as a board member and secretary of the Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA). He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC).

Maintaining KLK’s Strategic Direction

The appointment of a new CEO is significant for KLK’s continued management of its integrated business portfolio, which includes oil palm plantations, vegetable oil processing, oleochemicals and property development.

The new leadership will oversee the group’s business segments amid changing commodity prices, operational efficiency requirements, sustainability expectations and evolving markets for palm oil-derived products.

For Southeast Asia’s palm oil industry, leadership developments at a major group such as KLK are worth monitoring, as strategic decisions may influence investment, downstream product development and supply-chain development.
