As the largest CPO producer in the world, Indonesia is a safe country for foreign investment in the palm oil sector. According to IPO NEWS investigation, various countries have invested their funds in the Indonesian palm oil industry. The countries are Belgium, Britain, the United States, South Korea, Malaysia and several other countries.
From these many countries, Malaysia has many group companies which control oil palm plantations in Indonesia with very large land areas, such as Sime Darby, Kuala Lumpur Kepong (KLK Group), Genting Plantation Group, Julong Group, TH Felda Group and several other companies.
The foreign palm oil companies have become a conglomerate companies with fantastic revenues which continue to increase. They are also intensively investing in the downstream sector of palm oil and their production is exported abroad.
For the main topic of this edition, IPO NEWS presents a report on the Sime Darby Group which has many subsidiaries in Indonesia. Until 2022 this group of companies controlled 256,247 hectares of oil palm plantations spreading in Aceh, Jambi, Riau, North Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
Not only in Indonesia, Sime Darby Group also has oil palm plantations in Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Island. From these four countries, the total area of oil palm plantations owned by the Sime Darby Group is 745,301 hectares. With such an area of palm oil, Sime Darby Group is capable of producing 2.6 million tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) per year and making it the largest CPO producer in the world.
