Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News) – According to IPO News’s observations, Cargill Group business success in oil palm occurred in 2015, when it acquired land for PT Poliplant Sejahtera covers an area of 50,000 hectares, including plasma land owned by smallholders. Since then the area of oil palm planted has reached 60,000 hectares and the plantations which have produced are more than 50,000 hectares. CPO production reaches 600,000 tons per year.

In running the palm oil business, since 2014 Cargill has launched a policy on sustainable palm oil (Policy on Sustainable Palm Oil). As part of its Palm Oil 2020 Roadmap, Cargill is actively working to certify its plantations to sustainable standards, both national and international, such as ISPO and RSPO.

According to IPO News’s observations that on 12 October 2015, Cargill, through its subsidiary PT Poliplant Sejahtera had submitted an application for ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil) certification to Sucofindo for its palm oil mill (PKS) and Siriham plantation in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The plant with a capacity of 60 tons of FFB per hour produces 65,165 tons of CPO and 13,033 tons of Palm Kernel (PK). Meanwhile, its plantation area of 3,795 hectares produces 260,663 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB). Cargill received this certificate in 2016.

On 7 September 2021, Cargill, through its subsidiary PT Poliplant Sejahtera had submitted an application for RSPO P&C certification to PT SGS Indonesia for the palm oil mill (PKS) and Siriham plantation in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The plant with a capacity of 60 tons of FFB per hour produces 45,789 tons of CPO per year and 11,215 tons of Palm Kernel (PK) per year. Meanwhile, its plantation area of 10,084.57 hectares produces 205,795 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) per year. As of January 2022, IPO News has not received information on whether Cargill has received this certification.

Formerly, on 3 November 2018, Cargill through its subsidiary PT Harapan Sawit Lestari appointed PT SGS

Indonesia to conduct an RSPO P&C certification assessment for Oil Palm Plant (PKS) and Manis Mata plantation located in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. This PKS with a capacity of 60 tons of FFB per hour produces 54,958 tons of CPO per year and 14,502 tons of Palm Kernel (PK) per year. Meanwhile, its plantation area of 13,458 hectares produces 276,417 tons of FFB per year.

On 26 July 2019, Cargill through its subsidiary PT Indo Sawit Eternal has appointed PT SGS Indonesia reassessed the RSPO P&C certification for Oil Palm Plant (PKS) and River View plantation located in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. This PKS with a capacity of 100 tons of FFB per hour produces 43,389 tons of CPO per year and 9,642 tons of Palm Kernel (PK). Meanwhile, its plantation area of 9,499 hectares produces 192,841 tons of FFB per year.

On 16 October 2020 Cargill through its subsidiary PT Andes Agro Investasma (RSPO membership number 2-0216-11-000.00, Palmtrace Number RSPO_PO1000008599) had requested PT SGS Indonesia to conduct a reassessment of the RSPO P&C for the plant and the Sei Kerandi plantation, as well as the Sei Resak plantation located in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The Sei Kerandi plant with a capacity of 120 tons of FFB per hour produces 80,746 tons of CPO per year and 15,476 tons of Palm Kernel (PK) per year. Meanwhile, its plantation area of 18,754.44 hectares produces 336,442 tons of FFB per year. PKS Sei Kerandi has RSPO certificate No. SGS-RSPO/PC19-00028 with a validity period of 1 December 2024.

Based on the latest information received by IPO News on 5 August 2021, Cargill through its subsidiary PT Maya Agro Investama Palmtrace Number RSPO_PO1000004853 cooperates with PT SGS Indonesia to conduct an RSPO P&C assessment for 1 Palm Oil Plant Kedipi and 1 Kemuning nucleus Plantation, FFB supplier located in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. This palm oil plant with a capacity of 60 tons of FFB per hour has a CPO production of 45,547 tons per year and produces Palm Kernel (PK) of 9,589 tons per year. Meanwhile, its plantation area of 5,333.51 hectares produces 46,036 tons of FFB per year.

While many palm oil firms have yet to join the ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil) accreditation program, Cargill has done so as of 2025. Government regulations have always been followed by the company.

PT Andes Agro Investama, located in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, for two plantations totaling 8,869 hectares and 11,110 hectares, and PT Sumber Terang Agro Lestari, located in Banyuasin, South Sumatra, for a plantation area of 4,298 hectares, are among the numerous Cargill subsidiaries that have obtained ISPO certification up until 2025, according to information obtained by IPO NEWS.

On Behalf RSPO Certificats, Issuing Funds Of Billion Rupiah

On 10 April 2021, Cargill through its subsidiary PT Harapan Sawit Lestari, PT Indo Palm Oil Eternal, PT Ayu Sawit Lestari has spent around Rp 2.5 billion for RSPO premiums to seven cooperatives in the Ketapang district, West Kalimantan. The seven cooperatives are KUD Baku Mandiri Cemerlang, KUD Sepakat Mekar, KUD Beringin Jaya Lestari, Koperasi Sepakat Sejahtera Lestari, Koperasi Harapan Lestari Mandiri, Koperasi Barokah Mitra Mandiri and Koperasi Mitra Lestari.

The seven cooperatives represent 4,000 plasma smallholders in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. The amount of RSPO premium received increased by 17%, exceeding the premium received in the previous year amounting to Rp 2.1 billion. These plasma smallholders collectively manage more than 7,800 hectares of oil palm plantations under the guidance of Cargill.

Previously in February 2021, the Cargill Tropical Palm business unit in the Kalimantan region had provided RSPO premiums with a total of Rp 1.7 billion to 3,300 plasma smallholders with a land area of 6,800 hectares. So that the total premium RSPO which has been submitted in the 2021 fiscal year had reached Rp 4.2 billion or triple the number in 2020 and benefit more than 7,300 plasma smallholders.

The delivery of the RSPO premium is part of Cargill’s commitment to assisting the development of plasma smallholders. Cargill supports the progress of smallholders in adopting safe, responsible and sustainable farming practices, through certification and premium RSPO. According to Anthony Yeow, President Director of the Cargill Tropical Palm Business Unit in Kalimantan, this program is in line with Cargill’s commitment to a transparent, traceable and sustainable palm oil supply chain, as well as supporting plasma smallholders to become successful entrepreneurs.
