Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News), Bali — The Malaysian Biodiesel Association (MBA) took part in the 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference 2026, held on September 17–18 at Sofitel Nusa Dua, Bali. The international conference, themed “The Role of Palm Biodiesel for Global Energy Security,” brought together industry players, government representatives, associations, and biodiesel stakeholders from across the region.

MBA’s presence in Bali added an important perspective to discussions on the future of palm-based biodiesel in Southeast Asia. MBA is one of three associations that initiated the Palm Biodiesel Conference, together with the Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (APROBI) and the Thai Biodiesel Producer Association (TBPA).

The conference is held on a rotating basis among the three countries. Following Malaysia as host of the fourth edition in 2023 and Thailand hosting the fifth edition in 2025, the sixth edition returned to Indonesia this year, with APROBI serving as host.

MBA President Joins the Discussion

At the 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference in Bali, Tee Lip Teng, President of the Malaysian Biodiesel Association, was among the speakers in the session titled “Accelerating Biodiesel Mandates: Policy, Industry Readiness, and Financing for a Sustainable Transport Sector.”

The session brought together government and industry perspectives from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand on accelerating biodiesel mandates, strengthening industry readiness, and developing financing support for a more sustainable transport sector.

Tee Lip Teng has also been entrusted to lead MBA for the 2026 term. His participation in Bali reflects the active role of Malaysia’s biodiesel industry in the regional discussion on palm-based renewable energy.

Malaysia Pushes for Higher Biodiesel Blending

MBA’s participation in the Bali conference comes as Malaysia continues to discuss the acceleration of higher biodiesel blending mandates. In April 2026, MBA called on the Malaysian Government to accelerate the implementation of higher biodiesel blends in the transport and industrial sectors. The association proposed that areas with sufficient infrastructure and technical readiness should move forward with B10 to B20 implementation.

At the same time, MBA has called for faster development of blending infrastructure as Malaysia works toward the implementation of B30 nationwide. The initiative highlights Malaysia’s effort to strengthen domestic utilization of palm-based biodiesel while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand Strengthen Regional Cooperation

The 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference in Bali also demonstrated that palm biodiesel development is increasingly becoming a regional issue rather than solely a national agenda. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand remain key players in Southeast Asia’s palm-based biodiesel industry, with each country pursuing its own blending mandates and policy frameworks.

Indonesia has moved toward B50, while Malaysia continues to explore the acceleration of higher blending levels toward B30. Thailand has also continued developing its biodiesel program. Against this backdrop, the Bali conference provided an important platform for the three countries to exchange experience on government policy, industry readiness, technology, financing, and the future development of biodiesel.

The conference theme, “The Role of Palm Biodiesel for Global Energy Security,” is particularly relevant as countries seek to diversify energy sources and strengthen domestic energy resilience. For the palm oil industry, higher biodiesel mandates can create additional domestic demand for palm oil while strengthening the role of the commodity in the renewable energy sector.

From Bali, Palm Biodiesel Gains Stronger Regional Momentum

MBA’s participation in Bali underlines Malaysia’s continued commitment to the development of palm-based biodiesel as part of its national and regional energy agenda. The discussion also highlights the growing importance of cooperation among the major palm-producing countries in Southeast Asia.

With Indonesia moving toward B50 and Malaysia working toward higher blending levels, the development of palm biodiesel is set to remain an important part of the region’s energy and palm oil industry landscape.

The presence of MBA at the 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference in Bali therefore carries significance beyond the two-day event itself. It reflects the continuing efforts of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to strengthen the role of palm biodiesel in supporting energy security, domestic resource utilization, and the transition toward more sustainable transport fuels.
