Indonesian Palm Oil (IPO News) – Even though Indonesia has been exporting fatty alcohol for a long time to several countries, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics, Indonesia is still importing fatty alcohol with an increasing value. In 2017 the import was recorded at 31,425 tons, it continued to increase to 35,909 tons in 2019. Due to covid 19, it decreased slightly to 34,056 tons in 2020 and in 2021 it is estimated that the export would decrease again since during the period from January to June the volume was only recorded at Rp. 15,642 tons. This means that for the whole year it is estimated that it only reached 31,284 tons. For more details, see the diagram below.

Development of Fatty Alcohol Import by Types

In the Foreign Trade Statistics issued by BPS, the export and import of fatty alcohol are included in 2 groups of HS numbers, namely 38237010 and 38237090. Meanwhile, the most imported fatty alcohol is Industrial Fatty Alcohols Other Than In The Form of Wax with HS number 39237090.

In 2017, the import volume of this type of fatty acid was approximately 31,371 tons, then decreased to 30,221 tons, in 2019 it rose again to 35,815 tons, but after that it continued to fall. For more details see the table below.

According to the Central Statistics Agency, in 2020 the imported fatty alcohol was entirely imported from 13 countries, namely Japan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Australia, United States, France, Germany, Belgium and Italy. From 13 countries, the most supplying was Malaysia with 30,676 tons with a value of US$ 36.1 million. The second place was the Philippines with 1,366 tons with a value of US$ 1.5 million in the same year.
