Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News) – Trend of Fatty Acid Import

Even though Indonesia has long exported fatty acids in very large quantities, it turns out that according to BPS records, until now there are still imported fatty acids, but recently the imports have fluctuated. In 2017, some 35,805 tons of fatty acids were imported with a value of US$ 48.1 million. In 2018 there was a very striking jump to 255,227 tons with a value of US$ 189.3 million. In 2019 there was a slight decline, but in 2020 it fell back to the position in 2017, as well as in 2021. Detailed information is pictured in the following table.

Similar to the exports in the Foreign Trade Statistics, the import of fatty acids are also grouped into 7 HS numbers. From seven HS numbers, the most imported are fatty acids which are incorporated in HS number 39231990, namely Other industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, acid oils from refining.
In 2017, the import of this type of fatty acid were recorded at 13,231 tons with a value of US$ 20.3 million. In 2018 it increased slightly, but after that it continued to decline.

Great import in 2018 and 2019 was due to the import of fatty acids incorporated in HS number 38231920, namely Industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, acid oils from refining, other, Palm fatty acid distillate. In 2017 Indonesia only imported 89 tons of this type of fatty acid but in 2018 it jumped to 227,302 tons, in 2019 it decreased but the amount was still very large.
