Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News) – Development of Indonesian Oil Palm Plantation Area
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) that the total area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia has continued to expand in recent years, although the growth trend has started to slow. In 2021, plantation area was recorded at approximately 14.622 million hectares, rising to 15.339 million hectares in 2022 an increase of 4.90%. However, subsequent annual growth has averaged only about 2.31%. Detailed information can be seen in the following table.

Oil Palm Plantation Area by Business Status
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) that the area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia has been steadily increasing in recent years. This increase is certainly in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote this sector to support the Indonesian economy.
In 2020, the total area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia was recorded at 14,586.5 thousand hectares, steadily increasing, reaching a peak of 16,833.9 thousand hectares in 2024. In 2025, this figure is projected to increase to 17,128.5 thousand hectares. For more details, see the table below.

Development of Indonesian Crude Palm Oil Production
Total Development of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) Production
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) that palm oil production in Indonesia has consistently increased over the past few years, with the exception of a 1.35% decline in 2021. This decline was likely due to the pandemic, which had halted all activities, including the palm oil industry. In 2020, Indonesian palm oil production reached 45,741.8 thousand tons. In 2021, it declined to 45,121.5 thousand tons, but has since risen steadily, peaking at 47,694.6 thousand tons. This represents an average increase of 1.07% over the past five years.
