Indonesian Palm Oil News (IPO News), Bali — The Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (APROBI) is once again bringing the palm biodiesel agenda to the international stage through the 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference 2026, held at Sofitel Nusa Dua, Bali, on September 17–18, 2026.

Under the theme “The Role of Palm Biodiesel for Global Energy Security,” the conference brings together stakeholders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries to discuss the future of palm biodiesel and its contribution to the global energy landscape.

APROBI is hosting the conference in collaboration with the Malaysian Biodiesel Association (MBA) and the Thai Biodiesel Producer Association (TBPA). The forum provides a platform to discuss biodiesel industry developments, energy policies, technology, financing, market demand and opportunities to further develop biodiesel as part of the global energy transition.

According to APROBI, the conference is attended by approximately 200–300 participants representing various parts of the biodiesel value chain, including industry players, government representatives, technology providers, innovation partners and other stakeholders.

Indonesia as Host Country

The 6th Palm Biodiesel Conference in Bali carries strategic significance for Indonesia. In addition to being one of the world’s major palm oil producers, Indonesia is also at the forefront of implementing palm-based biodiesel mandates. This year’s conference continues a regional cooperation tradition that began with the first Palm Biodiesel Conference in 2017.

The inaugural conference was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2017, initiated by APROBI, MBA and TBPA. The conference was subsequently held in Bangkok in 2019, Yogyakarta in 2022, Putrajaya in 2023 and Bangkok in 2025. For its sixth edition, Indonesia once again serves as host, with APROBI taking the lead as organizer.

Biodiesel and Energy Security

The theme of this year’s conference is particularly relevant amid the rapidly changing global energy landscape. Energy security is no longer simply about ensuring fuel availability. One of the sessions on the first day focuses on “Accelerating Biodiesel Mandates: Policy, Industry Readiness, and Financing for a Sustainable Transport Sector,” featuring speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The forum highlights how biodiesel development in Southeast Asia is increasingly becoming a regional agenda. Major palm producing countries have growing interests in strengthening cooperation, sharing experience and developing a more competitive biofuel industry.

From Indonesia to the Global Market

For Indonesia, the conference also provides an opportunity to showcase the development of its national biodiesel industry to the international community. The country’s experience in implementing a large scale biodiesel mandate provides valuable lessons for other countries seeking to develop renewable and alternative fuels.
